On any given night, there are 4,000 homeless youth in Minnesota and many of them are in Anoka County and the north metro. When the darkness of night sets in, these youth are staying in shelters, couch-hopping or sleeping on the streets. HOPE 4 Youth, a nonprofit that provides pathways to end youth homelessness, is raising awareness of the plight of these young people by bringing the community together for the "Darkest Night of Your Life 4K." The 4K not only raises awareness of homeless youth in our community - participants experience the same feelings of being cold and hungry in the darkness - but also helps bring the first 12 homeless youth "home" to HOPE Place, HOPE 4 Youth's new transitional housing. The 4K will help cover the operational costs of HOPE Place and the young people leave their title of homelessness in the past. Each participant is asked to raise pledges (beyond the $30 registration fee) from their family, friends and co-workers. It is easy and we will be there for you so that you can raise as much as possible. Prizes will be awarded for the top individual and team fundraisers. There will be two waves for each participant to choose from: 9:30 p.m. or 10:30 p.m. Participants will run/walk through a winding course along Bunker Hills Golf Course. Luminaries will help light the course. Race cancellation and weather policy: Events may be delayed, shortened or in rare circumstances cancelled, in the event of inclement weather including lightening, wind, heat, snow, or the threat of imminent severe weather which may harm or injure participants, staff, set up crew and bystanders. Event time frame includes setup, race and tear down. All possible attempts will be made to contact those involved by email, website and social media. No refunds or transfers allowed.
